North Arkansas forest landowners, forestry professionals, and the public are invited to attend the third biennial forest
landowner training conference, to be held at the University of Arkansas Community College, Batesville on March 17&18,
2008.  The impacts of changing forest product markets and conservation programs, the emerging biofuels industry, and
passage of the 2007 & 2008 Farm and Renewable Energy bills are creating new forest management and forest product
marketing opportunities for landowners.  Forestry instructors have prepared a variety of topic presentations to be provided
in three concurrent tracts of instruction to address individual landowner interests.  Numerous exhibitors will display the tools,
equipment, and services available to assist landowners in forest management activities.  Make attendance a family event so
that different family members can take different classes.
In addition to instruction on basic forest management topics, this year’s conference will provide a full, 1½ day instructional
track for female forest landowners.  Another conference highlight will be the Monday evening dinner presentation by the
Future Fuels biorefinery management team where they will outline their plans to make vehicle fuel from wood, and the
technical challenges they are overcoming to do so.  The conference registration fee of $20 per person pays for all course
materials, refreshments, Monday evening dinner, and Tuesday luncheon.
Participants wishing to remain overnight can do so by contacting the Batesville Ramada Inn (870)698-1800 for special
forestry conference rates ($60-$66/per night) or any of the additional motels: Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, or Super 8.
For a complete description of the various course offerings and address registration forms, go to the Upcoming Events page
of the www.ozarkforestry.org  website, or contact the Ozark Foothills RC&D Council at (870)523-8986 Ext. 4.
